100 Point Day

I’ve been reading a book, Reality Is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World, and it’s inspired me to add some more “gamification” to my life. A friend of mine came up with the idea of having a 100 point day – a list of things you should do every day, and if you do them you get points. The ultimate goal is to have a 100 point day. They can be simple – like drink 8 glasses of water, exercise at least 30 minutes a day, go to bed before midnight.

I’m taking it one step further – my 100 point day is a 100 penny day. At the end of the day, if I have a perfect day I get to put a dollar in a jar. If I have a 60 point day, I put 60 cents in the jar. Maybe someday I’ll have enough to buy myself something nice :-)

Rather than arbitrarily assigning points to tasks, I came up with an algorithm that weights the points based on how difficult the task is to achieve and how important it is for me to do it. Try it out for yourself:

Daily Goals
Goal How difficult is it? How important is it?
