52 Weeks of Sewing – An A-Line Skirt

How about this for this geometric mayhem of a print? I bought the fabric at Spotlight in New Zealand while I was visiting my parents for Christmas – this was the skirt I pictured it becoming the moment I saw the print. It’s a stretch cotton sateen. Pattern matching would have been ridiculous with the craziness of the print, so I didn’t bother. Judge me, why don’t you 😛

I drafted the skirt from the perfect a-line skirt I have in my closet – it’s a really simple little thing, but there’s something indescribable about it that makes it fit me perfectly. So I traced it, and made one of my own :-)

It would’ve taken no time at all, except I took the time to draft a real, re-usable pattern for it so that I can make it again and again. If I ever figure out how to digitize these things, I could even put it up on BurdaStyle or up on here, although I’m sure there’s a free basic a-line skirt pattern somewhere around already.

It’s project number 12 in my 52 Weeks of Sewing project. I’m so excited to still be caught up as the year goes on!
